3G brings more opportunities for developers

BANGALORE, INDIA: "3G is most important for the Indian market not just because of the service, but also for the opportunity it offers to develop mobile applications from the huge, talented level of Indian mobile applications developers," said Kenny Mathers, head, developers and channels, Forum Nokia, Asia Pacific, during the Forum Nokia developer conference in Bangalore.

"With the rapid expansion of mobile devices, teledensity, next-generation network (NGN) services etc., the innovative applications have a ready market in the Indian mobile space. With the mobile services and 3G at the centre of the revolution, this industry is poised for immense opportunities, and the Forum Nokia developer conference promises to bring developers together to discuss the evolution and its future," added Mathers.

Further he noted: "India has got a huge potential growth in mobile industry and our conference help developers to understand the industry well. India will always lead the world in technology because of the world class education provided here and we are happy to see the response from Indian developer community."

Speaking on Developer Community and Mobile Future, Srikanth Raju, director, head of product marketing Forum Nokia said: "India is the largest and fastest growing community in mobile system followed by China and Russia and we see a huge window of opportunity here. Using our next generation cross platform user interface, Qt, developers can develop applications and user interfaces once, and deploy them across many desktop and embedded operating systems (OSs) without rewriting the source code."

"Qt, which is now available to the open source community under the General Public License (GPL) license, will be made publicly available and encourage contributions from desktop and embedded developer communities. With these changes, developers will be able to actively drive the evolution of the Qt framework," added Raju.

"Nokia will be able to leverage improvements in Qt across S60 on Symbian OS, Maemo and OVI services without rewriting the source code and we urge developers to unite and build the next killer application for mobile applications," he commented.

The conference was organized by Forum Nokia to help Indian developer community to get their developed products to market quickly and efficiently, by delivering resources covering entire mobile application lifecycle, from development to sales.
